Today’s Photo Of The Day is “Bighorn Ram in Fall Colors” by Dawn Wilson. Location: Waterton Canyon National Recreation Area, Colorado.
“The fall is the best season to photograph bighorn sheep because they’re in their rut season,” explains Wilson. “During the rut, the males demonstrate a wide variety of behaviors in an attempt to woo the ewes, including low neck stretches, flehmen responses and head butting. This young ram stopped to demonstrate the flehmen response, a method of taking in more pheromones from a nearby ewe. The background full of fall colors helped to clarify the season.”
