Today’s Photo Of The Day is “Pretty in Pink” by Doug Koepsel. Location: White Pocket, Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, Arizona.

“Back in 2009, a friend suggested that I go to White Pocket as I was starting to photograph landscapes for a hobby,” explains Koepsel. “So, with crude directions and no idea what I was going to see, I slogged my truck over the sand to this otherworldly environment. As I was just beginning landscape photography, most of my images were excitedly taken during the day as I scrambled over the terrain and lacked composition even though there were many leading lines to be had in the sandstone. This was my best image from the trip, and the takeaway from this image was to continue shooting after sunset to capture the soft light as the camera sensor is more sensitive than the eye.”

Nikon D90, Nikon 18-105mm at 21mm. Exposure: 1/5 sec., f/8, ISO 200.

Photo of the Day is chosen from various OP galleries, including AssignmentsGalleries and the OP Contests. Assignments have weekly winners that are featured on the OP website homepage, FacebookTwitter and Instagram. To get your photos in the running, all you have to do is submit them.
