Today’s Photo Of The Day is “Sandstone Passage” by Jeff Sullivan. Location: Vermillion Cliffs National Monument, Arizona.

“For this composition, I used a low camera position, a wide-angle lens and an upward angle to create the illusion of a subway-like eroded passage,” explains Sullivan. “In reality, the ‘ceiling’ was a slightly overhanging ledge about three to four feet high. I took shelter from the midday sun here and was looking for something to do, so I envisioned some interesting compositions to shoot.

“Given the dynamic range of the scene, I captured three exposures one stop apart and, after adjustments in Adobe Lightroom, combined them in Photomatix HDR software.”
